Human Eye Anatomy: Parts of the Eye Explained

Human Eye anatomy

Human eye is an organ in human body which is very complex. It is actually the most complex among all the body organs. Amazingly it is a very tiny organ with many different working parts. However providing vision is no joking hence the many parts working in unison. It is believed that the eye works very similar to modern digital camera.

Parts of the Eye Explained

1. Cornea

It is the front service of the eye which is very clear. This is the part whose primary role is to focus the light. Interestingly, cornea usually acts like the lens of a camera.

2. Iris

Whereas cornea focuses the light, iris functions in controlling this light. In other words, iris controls amount of light that reaches the back of the eye. It does this task by doing automatic adjustment to resize the pupil. It is the part of the eye that is normally colored.

3. Pupil

This part is viewed as the circular opening found in the iris. It is usually black and its role is to allow the light inside.

4. Sclera

The white part of the eye, a tissue that is tough, resembling leather. It surrounds the eye, as its function is shaping the eye.

5. Conjunctiva

We understand this part as a slightly thin layer consisting of tissue. The entire front of the eye of course is covered by this layer. However, cornea is a exception because it is not covered by conjunctiva.

6. Lens

We usually define these as clear, a bit flexible structure. They are found immediately behind the pupil and the iris. Connected to lens is the ciliary body, which works together with the lens. Their core function is controlling focusing of light finely, entering the eye.

7. Vitreous Cavity

A space occupied by gel-like substance that covers almost the entire eye. This gel widely known as vitreous humor, maintains the eye shape. We find it behind the lens, and again in front of retina.

8. Retina

We view this part as very specially made cells that sense presence of light. Its role is to convert light directly into electrical impulses.

9. Optic nerve

We see that after the retina produces electrical impulses, optical nerve takes over. It speedily carries these ready impulses straight to the brain.

10. The macular

It is the part located in the retina, and it is small-size. In addition, this part is highly sensitive to grant central vision.

11. Orbit

We take this as the socket in the scull which is bony. It is believed to be a socket since it holds the eye in place. Within it is lacrimal gland that is known for tear production. Tears are of importance in moistening and lubricating the eye.

12. Eyelids and Eyelashes

Eyelids are known to give protection to the eye from foreign matter. On the other hand, eyelashes filter out any foreign material in the eye.

Conclusion

Having explained vividly the anatomy of the eye, I would conclude with a phrase. The phrase is known as “the look of love”. There is a strong connection that exists between eyes and love. The eye sees, sends impulse to the brain; which in return sends to the body the feeling of love.
